SISD provides Coronavirus updates and precautions
Communication and Health Reminder regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Dear Sundown ISD Parents and Guardians,
Sundown ISD administrators have been in continuous communication with state, county and local health officials regarding COVID-19. We do not wish to alarm anyone, as we remain committed to making informed decisions based on exposure in our area. Updated information from the CDC on the coronavirus in the United States can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. The most recent information about coronavirus in Texas may be found at: https://dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/. Until further notice, we will continue to participate in extracurricular activities as allowed. Sundown ISD is committed to the health and safety of our students and staff. The COVID-19 coronavirus is spreading quickly in many parts of the world and has a growing potential to disrupt travel. With spring break upon us, Sundown ISD encourages families to stay updated as they consider travel plans, and heed the CDC’s travel advisories. The CDC provides recommendations on postponing or cancelling travel. These are called travel notices and are based on assessment of the potential health risks involved with traveling to a certain area. A list of destinations with travel notices is available at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html.
Sundown ISD continues to be proactive in providing a safe and clean school environment. As you know, we have an ongoing partnership with GermBlast to keep our buildings sanitized on a consistent basis. We have a great custodial staff, who understand the importance of cleaning and wiping down high touch-areas on our campuses. Much is being learned about this newly emerging virus. Based on current information, health officials are recommending local communities and schools should take proactive steps to protect against coronavirus as we look to also prevent the spread of everyday illnesses like the common cold or the flu:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as often as necessary. Thank you, in advance, for working with us to keep all of our students healthy and safe.
