FROM COACH NEWTON: I am very excited to announce the following young men have qualified to compete at the Regional Powerlifting meet that will be here in Sundown next Saturday, March 14th. These kids had to finish in the top 12 in their respective weight classes to qualify. Our region is massive and has over 80 schools who compete in powerlifting, so this is quite a feat. This is by far the largest group I have had advance since I have been here, so I am extremely proud of this group of kids. Lots of hard work and effort has gone into this group as well as all of our kids who competed this season. Welcome back and Happy New Year! Over the break, our varsity basketball teams competed in the Caprock Classic and both teams came away with 2-2 records. Boys beat Rankin before falling to Idalou and Slaton in closely contested games then finished off the tournament with a win over Kingdom Prep. Girls opened with a win over New Deal, dropped a game to Merkel, defeated Veribest and then lost to Nocona. It was great experience for both teams. JV and Varsity boys and girls then travelled to Spur on Jan. 3 and came away with 4 wins. Due to a scheduling conflict on Lorenzo's part, they will not be able to play their game tonight with our High School JV white team.
