After a dominating victory over New Deal, 35-21, the Roughnecks secured the second place spot in their district for playoffs. On Friday, November 6th the Sundown Roughnecks took on the New Deal Lions on the road. The Lions jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on their opening drive with 8:30 left in the first. After an unsuccessful first drive, the Roughnecks punted the ball back to the Lions. The Lion’s Harley Patterson missed his receiver, and the Roughnecks #11 Carson Boggs picked off the pass and ran it down to New Deal two yardline. Sundown’s #7 E.J. Hernandez answer the call with a score of his own to tie the score 7-7. 

New Deal would score again in the first half with a 61 yard run by Leric Eaton. Hernandez would lead the Roughnecks down to the opponent’s one yard line where #9 Carson Holson would finish the drive with a rushing touchdown. The score was then tied up 14-14. New Deal would go on to score once more before the half. With three minutes left in the second quarter, The Roughnecks #10 Marcos Hernandez took the Roughnecks down to New Deal’s seven yard line after another Holson pass. The following down, E.J. Hernandez would score with one minute left.

The Roughnecks defense controlled the second half, holding the Lions scoreless, while their offense never slowed down. Sundown would put up 14 more points in the second half, one being a running TD to Holson. The other was a 70 yard bomb over the top to #35 Brandon Kenley to make the final score 35-21.
