Micaela Hernandez Advances to State in Powerlifting

The Sundown girls powerlifters competed at the regional meet last Friday in Shamrock.  The girls had a great day and competed very well.  We had 4 girls receive medals and the girls finished in 6th as a team out of 37 teams represented at the meet.  We had many girls set new personal records throughout the meet.  Micaela Hernandez will move on and compete at the state meet next Wednesday in Corpus Christi.  Micaela also set a new regional record in the deadlift for the 123 weight class by successfully lifting 355 pounds.  This was a 10 year old record (previous record was 345) so I was super proud of her for achieving this and putting her name in the record books. She also received the award for best overall deadlift on the light platform for the meet.

The other girls placings:
Ariel Hernandez - 3rd Place
Mariah Stephens - 5th Place
Micaela Hernandez - 1st Place; best Overall deadlift award light platform
Autum Olivas - 7th Place
Bridget Reyes - 10th Place
Sahaira Reyes - 4th Place

These girls had an amazing year and Coach Newton is so proud of them for all they accomplished Friday as well as the entire season.  Again, Micaela will compete in Corpus Christi next Wednesday, March 16th, during Spring Break. Good Luck, Micaela!
