National Merit Scholarship Corporation
COMMENDED STUDENTS IN THE 2022 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The principal, Jeremy Grffith, of Sundown High School announced today that Avery Avery has been named a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to this talented senior.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2022 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed in the top 50,000 students who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognized for their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success”.

Friday, the SHS Social Action class hosted an ice cream float party for the fifth graders, who raised $112.93 for our First Responders. Overall, the district raised $500. Thank you Sundown First Responders for all that you do, and thank you Sundown ISD for your contributions and support of our hometown heroes.
This past week our Culinary students competed in the South Plains Fair Culinary Contest. Here is a list of our winners and pictures of their masterpieces they submitted. Congratulations to all students!
