Practice Facility Notice
Practice facility will be closed for the rest of the week and will be open again Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
When the facility re-opens we ask of those using the gym, at a minimum, to adhere by the following expectations:
clean up after yourself;
use the gym to play games and get better at one’s sport or athletic abilities…please do not make the gym a “hang out” place;
non-Sundown residents should be accompanied by an adult;
students below the 8th grade should be accompanied by a parent;
all students without parent supervision need to leave the gym no later than 9pm nightly;
use the gym to play basketball as the game is designed to be played (ie - no hanging on the rim, no tackle basketball, no balls purposefully thrown off of the walls, etc.)
refrain from bringing speakers to the gym…the music is not monitored;
if you are not a current eighth grader, you should not use the weight room without parent supervision;
students using the weight room should have a partner or spotter at all times;
use the weight room to lift and get better as an athlete…it is not a play place;
keep doors closed and do not prop open; and
use the restroom facilities as they are designed to be used.
Again, at a minimum, please adhere to these guidelines. Going above and beyond is expected and greatly appreciated.
We do want the community to benefit from our facilities. However, we do not want damage or misuse of these facilities to occur. We do not want anyone hurt. And, we do not want to add extra cleaning work to our staff that is already making efforts to clean and prepare the facility for the upcoming school year.
Allowing community members to use the facility is a privilege. Treat the facility as if the privilege is worth keeping.
Thank you,
Mr. Evans

Sundown Elementary Field Day 2024 Pics now available on Sundown Facebook!
Sundown’s 3rd-5th grade Apollo students spent the semester researching endangered and extinct animals. They’ve looked at the reasons those animals are extinct or endangered, and conservation efforts to help with threats to those animals. They’ve also learned about animal taxonomy and classification, animal habitats, behaviors, adaptations, and defense mechanisms, and have wrapped up their research by each choosing an animal found at the Fort Worth Zoo to do more specific independent research on that particular animal. Last weekend, they were able to visit the Fort Worth Zoo and see their animals in person and compare and contrast what they've learned through research, with observations they made in person.
This trip was quite an adventure, and started with a fun supper at Magic Time Machine, complete with magic potion drinks. The group then headed to the zoo and began a nighttime hike, where they experienced something we seldom see in Sundown- rain! A 5-10 minute hike in an absolute downpour left everyone, and their shoes, completely drenched! They eventually made it into the Museum of Living Art (MOLA) and were able to explore using flashlights. This experience had quite a “Jurassic Park” feel to it!
They then returned to the zoo education building where they prepared their sleeping bags, cots, and air mattresses to have a campout in a classroom. All 20 students and 12 adults in one room. And all the accompanying nighttime noises- the manly snores, the frequent trips to the bathroom, and the 4th grade boys' flatulence followed by uncontrollable giggles- made for quite a memorable school trip!
In the morning they were able to meet three of the zoo’s animals- a chinchilla, a snake-necked turtle, and a parrot that even whistled at Mayor Strickland.
After meeting the animals, the students were then able to tour the zoo on their own with their friends or parents to find the animals they had been studying and wrap up their independent research projects.
These kids are so very grateful and would like to thank the SISD administration and school board members for their willingness to support the Apollo program and allow the students to have these opportunities!
