It's Science Time at Sundown Middle School! 8th Grade students in Mrs. Rodgers science class conducted a chemical reaction experiment with calcium chloride, sodium carbonate, magnesium sulfate and citric acid observing the reaction when mixed with water or vinegar. Students were able to observe and record all the changes from temperature, to color to overall change! Check out the video (the best quality version is on Sundown Instagram), and make sure the sound is up... the music is to be commended (side note: It is NOT me singing)! More than a Piece of Tape!
Friday night started off a little different. Coach Brannon Rodgers placed a piece of athletic tape in every players locker to place on their helmet…. not a traditional sticker to place on the back for a pancake block or for scoring a touchdown, rather it was simply a piece of white athletic tape.. nothing glamorous. A piece of tape that provided an opportunity to write a defining word, Bible verse, mantra or belief. Our Varsity Football Team has worked all season long coming up short on the scoreboard, but continuing to gain success in the weight room, and success in the locker room with the strides they have made towards becoming a team with a common heartbeat and a common goal. This piece of tape was inspired by the 2015 movie “Woodlawn” based on a true story from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama set in 1973. Our players were treated to the movie by Coach Rodgers and staff during the open week and it has served to provide some inspiration and motivation for our team. The Roughnecks went on to get a victory over Floydada 21-14 to start off district play. Sundown ISD is grateful for our Coaches that are always looking to build good football players… but more importantly for building great men! Take the opportunity to ask our players what they wrote on their helmets and to ask them for the inspiration behind their words.
