There have been a few changes to our softball schedule. This Saturday 3/12/22, our home district game against Sudan will now start at 12:00pm. Our games against Ralls were originally scheduled for Tuesday 3/15 and Saturday 3/19. Those two games have been moved to Monday 3/14 at Ralls, and on Wednesday 3/16 we will be playing here in Sundown. The start time for both of those games is 11:00am.

The Sundown Boys powerlifting team won the regional meet on Thursday night in dominating fashion. We scored 67 team points and had 14 out of our 16 competitors get individual medals. We qualified 11 young men to the state meet! Coach Newton has been in the THSPA association for almost 20 years and has never seen more than 7 from one school at the state meet. We are beyond proud of these young men. These guys will compete in Abilene on March 25 for a shot at another state title. We want to congratulate all of our competitors, and also give a huge thanks to our Coaches: Barry Newton, Kevin Torres and Sarah Goodman. For those that were in attendance, you were privy to witness the love that our athletes and coaches have for this sport, but more importantly, you also witnessed the love and support they showed one another! Our Coaches were vital in preparing and training our athletes to lift an absurd amount of weight… in many cases weight that the athlete had never done before… but more important, they gave our athletes the confidence to go out and compete with the best in the Region, and it paid off for us! 11 athletes advancing to the STATE MEET… WE ARE SUNDOWN STRONG!!! Thank you to the community in attendance for the love and support, thank you to our Seniors for your leadership and guiding our Team to another Regional Championship and thank you to all the athletes for the show you put on for us! The Roughneck Band performed this morning for the UIL Concert/Sight-Reading Evaluation and earned their 35th consecutive Sweepstakes rating, earning “First Division” ratings from all 6 judges. These students work so very hard at so very many things, and they have once again represented themselves and Sundown ISD will their talent and class! We are super proud of how they prepared this very challenging program! Please congratulate these students when you see them! We are also so grateful to our Band Directors Mr. Justin Mauldin, Mrs. Ashley Blount, and Mr. Mack Bibb for their work ethic and dedication to continuing our long standing tradition of excellence with our Band Program! It’s a great day to be a Sundown Roughneck!

Gratitude at it's finest! Army First Sergeant Rigoverto Medina, son of the late Maria Garcia, arrived back at his alma mater with a gift for the Sundown High School Cheerleaders. Back in October, the High School Cheerleaders helped to raise $7,290.50 for Mrs. Garcia as she was in the midst of her battle with cancer. First Sergeant Medina wanted to show his appreciation and arrived with quite the gift. His token of gratitude came in the form of a large frame with the names of each member of the Cheer Squad, spurs that were worn by 1SG Medina, and other Army insignia. First and foremost we want to thank First Sergeant Medina for his service, and second we want to thank him for this gift! The inscription reads: "Presented for the outstanding support to Brandi Webb, the Sundown Community, and SHS Cheer Team. The Hellcat Company and I deeply appreciate your generosity, thoughtfulness, and kind-hearted gesture of all donations for my mother Maria Garcia, in her battle with Uterine Cancer. Some things will never change, like the hearts of those in the Sundown Community. I will forever be grateful to have grown up here and attend SISD. 1SG Rigoverto Medina Hellcat Company 1st Battalion, 77th Armored Regiment"

With the weather forecast taking a turn for the worst, Olton is cancelling our HS track meet for Friday. The JH track meet on Thursday at Olton will go on as scheduled. (Thursday is not an option for the HS meet due to UIL Band competition and Regional Powerlifting.) Stay warm Roughneck Nation!
