Final Middle School Pep-Rally (Watch the Video... all the way to the end!) Final Middle School Pep-Rally for the 2022-2023 Football Season!  A huge thanks to our Cheer Coaches Mrs. Toni Garcia and Ms. Brandi Webb for their leadership throughout this season as they have served as cheer Coach, counselor, motivator, encourager, disciplinarian, fundraising extraordinaries and accountability Coaches!   It has been a great season thus far, with many miles spent on the road!  We are grateful to Mr. Rene Rivera as he has managed to keep his sanity driving a bus of 35 MS Cheerleaders on 6 road trips this year!  Mrs. Tiffany Wylie has been a huge asset in helping to organize snack bags and has been instrumental in providing so many cool decor items, stickers, and everything cool to help push our Sundown brand!  Our pep-rallies have been on a different level, and are meant to excite our students for the upcoming game... but our pep-rallies have been more... they have helped to promote our students' pride in being a Sundown Roughneck!  We are grateful to our community for their continued support from purchasing raffle tickets to provide cheer outfits for ALL 35 cheerleaders, and for their attendance at our games and pep-rallies throughout the season!  Thank you Sundown!   Watch the video of our last pep-rally!  We went old school in getting our 8th grade boys to provide some entertainment!  Huge shout out to those boys for getting out of their comfort zone... and for providing plenty of laughs!   https://youtu.be/Q_dPx-y4Ln4 Come out tonight to support our boys as they play their last game of the season!  Beat Tahoka!  Games start at 5 PM with our 8th grade, followed by a 5th quarter to be played by our 7th Grade.  JV will host New Home following the Middle School Games.

Sundown Community Bake Sale Helps to Sweeten the Donation for the Diaz Family Each year, the Sundown High School Cheerleaders have fundraised for a family in need. The Annual Bake Sale has always been a huge success, not because of the bake sale items, nor the silent auction items, rather it is because of the love and support that is shown each and every year by the Sundown Community! Our community sends money with their children to purchase items throughout the day, and our community shows up to bid on the generously donated silent auction items. This year was no different, as students came to school loaded with cash and ready to spend on sweets! The Sundown Community continues to bring light to a world that is in desperate need of hope, love and support. Times continue to be tough for so many people in our community, as we battle through so many things that come unexpectedly into our lives. Unfortunately for the Diaz Family, they have been hit twice. Sammie, Debbie, and Kennedi have been dealt an unexpected hand in their lives as they are currently battling cancer with mom and daughter, Debbie and Kennedi. Kennedi is a Junior at Sundown High School, and is an active member of the Sundown Cheerleaders, and a Tuba player for the Pride of the Oil Patch. This year, the Sundown High School Cheerleaders chose the perfect family to bless. The Diaz family has been a staple in our community, and their struggle has become our struggle as we continue to fight through this battle with them. We are hopeful that we will get to see Kennedi back in our halls, but for now she continues to battle through this terrible illness. Kennedi has battled with cancer since the end of last school year, and continues to fight the good fight well into the new school year. With Debbie fighting her own battle with cancer, it has definitely taken its toll on the family as she has managed to stay strong with her own battle as well as providing love and support for her daughter's struggles through cancer. Sammie continues to serve his family during this time of great need. He has to make many trips to Lubbock for treatments for both his wife and his daughter. He has had to endure the pain of seeing his loved ones going through so much during this season of their lives. The Diaz family remains in good spirits, as they bring so much hope and light to our community through their own time of need. They have inspired the community to love one another, and to lift each other up during a time of need. They have taught us how to fight, and to remain strong in their faith in order to endure some of life's most challenging battles! Through bake sale items, silent auction items, coins for cancer, and generous donations, Sundown High School Principal, Jeremy Griffith, was blessed with the opportunity to present a check in the amount of $10,179.00 to Sammie Diaz. Mr. Griffith presented the check to Sammie, and explained that the money that was collected was a couple thousand more than the original amount. "Is this real?", Sammie was left speechless, holding the check in his hand, and humbled at the thought of the Sundown community coming together for him and his family. Tears of joy were exchanged, and the Diaz family was blessed with "The Sundown Way"! October Breast Cancer Awareness Pep-Rally. School is officially cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday, November 8th and 9th (Monday Nov 7th is already a school holiday) next week. As our Band has qualified for the State Marching Contest to be held on Tuesday, November 9th. Sundown ISD has decided to cancel school for Tuesday and Wednesday, to allow for safe travel for our Band, for the students, and the community that will travel to San Antonio for the Band Competition. We are very proud of "The Pride of the Oil Patch", and want to allow any and all community members to make the trek to San Antonio to cheer on our Band!
