Book Tasting in 8th Grade English Class with Mrs. Garcia!
Imagine being in a class that has been transformed into a coffee shop with all the sights and sounds.... and DRINKS to really capture the minds of students! There is jazz music playing in the background, table coverings, and a centerpiece comprised of a vase of flowers and a silver platter full of…. BOOKS ready to devour! The students worked around to different tables, getting a “taste” of different books throughout the period. They were served tea, Root Beer, Dr. Pepper, orange juice and flavored cold coffee topped with whipped cream. There was eloquent seating, table top decorations and music. At each table they were given a menu... which provided them with the proper steps to take to get a taste of the book they were viewing. Students were engaged and caffeinated (as some students were trying cold coffee for the 1st time) as they worked around the coffee shop to determine what book they would be interested in reading this 6-weeks!
That was the environment that I walked upon in Mrs. Garcia’s 8th Grade English class this afternoon. So grateful to have a passionate teacher that goes above and beyond for our students! If you have an 8th grader, ask them about the coffee shop in Mrs. Garcia's class today (and the coffee!).

Facility Update: The facility is now up and running! The facility has a new floor, and will now be open to the public. We have updated the entry system, and no longer use the old fobs to gain access. If you are interested in purchasing a key card for facility access, we will have those available soon (more info to come). Everyone that paid for a fob will be given a key card to replace it free of charge, however, we are currently waiting on a new shipment of cards so we don't have them available to give out. So in the meantime, we are going to open up the facility to the public from 6-9 PM throughout this week. We will continue to run this schedule until we receive our shipment of access cards.
Open to Community: Starting Monday, January 10th
Time: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
For those interested in purchasing an access key card:
Community Access ($25.00). Key cards will be available for pick-up at the Superintendent's office. All those interested need to get in touch with Miguel Salazar (msalazar@sundownisd.com)
As soon as we receive the cards, we will send out another message.

We want to thank Custodians for their help in keeping the place looking pristine, the Seniors and Sponsors for their work in the concessions to feed all the teams, the Booster Club for providing the workers with morning, lunch and dinner goodies, the local refs that lent a helping hand, and the staff for working the book, the gate, and the clock. A special thanks to Trevor Bridges for the pictures he took over the course of 2 days! Also, none of this is possible without our Coaches Brian Legan, Janice Legan, Meagan Gonzales, Dakotah Watson, Kyle Igo, Jeff Lyles, Tanner Clark, & Ron Holson. Last but not least, we want to thank the Athletes for competing and handling themselves with class! We are so proud of each and everyone of them!
