The SHS Journalism class visited the Hockley County News-Press today. Owner Stephen Henry discussed the ins and outs of his business and gave advice on news writing. SHS graduate Marcos Vargas now works at the News-Press in the sports writing department.

The Great Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Congratulations to the Pride of the Oil Patch, the Sundown Roughneck Marching Band for advancing to the Area Competition! They competed at the UIL Region 16 Marching Contest today at Lowrey Field and earned Division I ratings across the board for a clean sweep! They earned the honor of advancing to the Area Marching Contest that will be held in 2 weeks in Amarillo. Congratulations to Mr. Mauldin, Mrs. Blount and Mr. Bibb for their guidance and leadership in preparation for this competition. Also thank you to the band boosters for their help, the community that showed up to cheer them on, and to Coach Cummings and the Varsity Football Team for showing up to show our Band some love! It’s a great day to be a Sundown Roughneck!
