Mr. Richardson’s classes have been busy throughout the year! Last Fall, they spent time in class forging metal, building carports, and prepping meal bags for the band fundraiser. His Animal Science classes took a field trip to the Panhandle Plains Museum as well as toured the Meats Lab. Another thing that Mr. Richardson has done is he has taken his class to help unload food with the South Plains food bank delivery truck. His Welding class also helped to distribute to our community! We are working our kids hard, taking them to experience museums and getting them involved in our community with service projects!

Amber Langehennig, Theatre Professor for Howard College, sat down with Mr. Ramirez’s One-Act Play seniors last Friday and offered them scholarships! We are so proud of this Senior Class as they have brought so much heart and dedication to so many of our programs. They will be missed!

The Pride of the Oil Patch Continues to Shine at Abernathy Band Festival
The Roughneck 5th, 6th, and 7th grade Bands competed April 20th in the Abernathy Band Festival. The 2 concert and 1 Sight Reading judges each rated all 3 bands as "First Division," resulting in an over-all Sweepstakes award. This is the best rating possible for the ensembles.
At the conclusion of the 4 day contest, it was shared that the judges also chose the 5th and 6th grade bands as Outstanding or "Best in Class" for their respective age groups! This is an exciting accolade considering this year's 6th grade class won as 5th graders in 2022! Sundown 5th grade helped earn back-to-back champion awards while 6th grade holds 2 champion trophies!
Mr. Mauldin, Mr. Bibb and Mrs. Blount are very proud of the work these young student musicians do in the band hall, but more importantly, they represent the school and community well as proud Sundown Roughnecks.
Champions Begin Here!
Please make plans to come hear these fine performers, along with the Pride of the Oil Patch HS Band, in their last concert of the year at 6:00pm on May 11th in the Sundown Auditorium.
