Sundown Elementary's 3rd, 4th and 5th graders had Career Day this morning. Thank you to Joe Don Elam, Brent Evans, Anna Hord, Brian and Shelby Lewis for coming to share about your jobs!

Congratulations to Sundown HS on winning the UIL District 5-AA Academic Championship yesterday! We have many students advancing to Regionals next month and we are so proud of them! Individual results will be posted soon.

MS Track Meet Schedule

On Friday, March 11th, 5th 6th, & 7th grade Sundown Band students competed in the First Annual Sundown Solo & Ensemble Festival. This was a first-time experience for most to perform under pressure without the security of the whole band. The standard of performance was judged on a scale similar to UIL expectations, however, the judges were allowed to award an "Outstanding" rating for the very top performances or those reaching the "next level" in their work for their level of experience. Judges also selected 1 individual or group as the "Judges' Choice Award" representing the very best performance, regardless of age or experience. Over-all: 69 Students earned 75 medals! 5th grade: 20 participated with 9 Division 1 Ratings; 17 Outstanding Ratings; 2 Judges' Choice Awards Also worth sharing - these students did not have ANY help during their regular band class. This event was 100% optional for beginning band students! Many came after school for help or practiced with their friends at home, on their own. 5th grade was also the only group with some students choosing to perform both a solo and an ensemble! 6th grade: 21 participated with 11 Division 1 Ratings; 10 Outstanding Ratings; 1 Judges' Choice Award 7th grade: 28 participated with 20 Division 1 Ratings; 8 Outstanding Ratings We are so proud of these Sundown Smart students making great progress in the band hall every day! Thank you for your continued support and encouragement of the kids as they push themselves individually to improve the whole.

We want to pray for safe travels to our 11 State Powerlifting Qualifiers! What a great opportunity for these young men to showcase their talents for the state to bear witness! Sometimes life doesn’t seem fair. Our OAP kids left their hearts on the stage today and had their best performance of the year, but did not advance to area. We did have several well deserved awards. All Star Crew -Brooklyn Webb, Our tech crew won the best crew award. Jonna Pool was honorable mention all star cast and Watson Evans and Avery Avery were named to the All Star cast.

The softball game scheduled for today, Tuesday March 22nd, vs. O’Donnell has been postponed due to weather. Info will be posted later about a rescheduled date.

Break a Leg! Praying for safe travels as our HS OAP folks travel to Post this morning for the Bi-District OAP Competition! Yes, this is posting at 4:45 AM, because that’s what time they have to leave to get there in time! We will be the 1st of 6 plays to perform starting at 2 PM, (which means we also have to be the 1st to set up… hence the early morning)!

Micaela Hernandez, State Champion, has just completed her final Powerlifting Meet as a Sundown Roughette and she did it in true SUNDOWN STRONG fashion! She has been named the State Champion for the 123 lb class in Corpus Christi today! She is a 3 time State Qualifier, finishing in 2021 with a Silver medal, and came back her Senior year with a vengeance. She was perfect from the floor, going 9 for 9 and hitting all of the weights she attempted. She was laser focused throughout the meet, and came out victorious! We are so proud of her for a great meet, a great year and a great Powerlifting Career as a Roughette! We are grateful to Coach Barry Newton, Coach Sarah Goodman and Coach Kevin Torres for the positive words of encouragement and the push this season! Please join us in congratulating Micaela on a job well done! She had a squat of 330 lbs, a bench of 150 lbs and a State Deadlift Record of 370 lbsb. Her total of 850 lbs earned Micaela her 1st State Title at the THSWPA STATE Powerlifting Meet! She was also named the Outstanding Deadlifter for the Light Platform… and was named the Outstanding Lifter on the Light Platform.
