38th Consecutive Sweepstakes!!! Congratulations to our Roughneck Band! They performed an amazing program for the Region 16 UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation this morning and earned First Division ratings from all six judges. Combined with their First Division at the region marching contest back in October, this is the 38th consecutive Sweepstakes for the Sundown High School Band. If you attended the performance, you were treated to that “Sundown Sound” that just gives you chills! It was a challenging program that really showed off what wonderful musicians we have in Sundown. These students work so hard in so many areas, especially in the spring, and it is nothing short of impressive how they’ve put together something so special! We are so grateful to Mr. Justin Mauldin, Mrs. Ashley Blount and Mr. Mack Bibb for challenging our students, but most important for loving them and believing in them!

SMS: Beyond the Classroom Watch the video: https://youtu.be/kuXPxuC6Xwg Recognizing that education extends beyond textbooks and tests, our school embarked on a journey to redefine learning. We have developed 'SMS: Beyond the Classroom,' a program designed to equip students with essential life skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our teachers, the driving force behind this initiative, collaborated to identify crucial skills often overlooked in traditional education. They envisioned a program that fostered emotional well-being, financial literacy, and practical know-how, empowering students to become confident, capable individuals. SMS "Beyond the Classroom" provides a dynamic learning environment where students discover hidden talents, build confidence, and develop leadership skills. They learn to cook, manage finances, perform basic car maintenance, and so much more. They collaborate, mentor each other, and become active contributors to their own learning journey. This is more than just an activity period; it's an investment in our students' future. It's about fostering a sense of community, shared responsibility, and a passion for lifelong learning. Last weekend our GT students went to the DFW area for a research trip. This trip serves as an opportunity to visit locations related to students' independent research projects, to allow the students to participate in team-building and leadership activities, and to do a service project. They were able to visit a structural engineering firm to see some of the projects, 3D modeling, and floor plans, and get insight into college and career options. They also visited the Dallas World Aquarium, played a round of disc golf, and went to a Stars game. Due to the lodging this year, the students had the unique opportunity to team up and cook meals for each other, with one group also making 12 dozen cookie bars to take to the Austin Street Center where they prepared and served lunch to those in the shelter. The kids also enjoyed an afternoon at Group Dynamix, a team-building event center. These students are so very thankful and grateful for the Sundown ISD school board for allowing them the opportunity to have these experiences.
