Sundown High School freshman Isaiah Igo has finished day 1 of the Adidas Junior All-Star Tournament in Portland, Oregon. Isaiah qualified for this event by earning enough stars during the summer playing in various American Junior Golf Association tournaments. 51 junior boys qualified for this tournament from all over the globe. Igo is competing against players from China, Peru, Canada, and many different U.S. states. Isaiah finished the day +8 with a chance to crawl back up the leader board tomorrow. Only 2 players are under par and they are -1 so he has a chance to get back into contention tomorrow. We are really proud of Isaiah and wish him the best of luck in round 2. You can follow along tomorrow using the online leader board at https://www.ajga.org/tournaments/2023/adidas-junior-all-star/leaderboard

Congratulations to the 2023 College Board’s National Recognition Program awardees! The honor recognizes students' academic excellence and hard work in high school. Three students at Sundown High School earned academic honors from College Board’s National Recognition Programs after taking the PSAT(NMSQT) test in October of 2022. Brayden Carr (senior), Emily Rodgers (junior), and Mariah Stephens (senior) all received the National Rural and Small Town Award (NRSTA). The criteria to receive this honor are as follows: - GPA of 3.5 or higher. - PSAT/NMSQT assessment scores that are within the top 10% of assessment takers in each state for each award program or earned a score of 3 or higher on 2 or more AP Exams in 9th and 10th grade. - Attend school in a rural area or small town, or identify as African American/Black, Hispanic American/Latino, or Indigenous/Native Hard work pays off and these three are helping in continuing our tradition of excellence!

Mr. Berry ended his first day as Elementary Principal with a very special presentation. He introduced himself and our theme for the year..."Level Up." He created a piece of art as the student body watched and there was a very special surprise revealed at the end. It was a great first day and a fun afternoon!
